Man slain at North Philadelphia playground

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed inside the playground at Chalmers Park in the Allegheny West section of North Philadelphia.

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Friday night in the Allegheny West section of North Philadelphia.

Officers discovered the victim around 11:20 p.m. at the playground at Chalmers Park, near 29th Street and Chalmers Avenue. He had been shot in the right side of his head, police said.

Police rushed the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m., according to investigators.

His identity was not released Saturday, pending notification of his family members.

There wasn't word on a suspect or motive, and police reported no arrest.

As with all homicides in Philadelphia, the city posted a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
