Harrowgate shooting leaves man dead

A 34-year-old man was fatally shot on the 1200 block of East Atlantic Street in Harrowgate, Philadelphia police said.

A 34-year-old man died of his injuries after he was shot early Sunday in the Harrowgate section of Philadelphia.

Officers on patrol near the 1200 block of East Atlantic Street around 12:18 a.m. heard gunfire coming from about a half-block away, police said.

They saw a man dart out from behind a parked car and briefly pursued him, but lost sight of the suspect after he ran into an alley and along a garage, according to investigators.

The officers then returned to the parked car, a 2011 Dodge. Outside the passenger door, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his head, police said.

He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was placed in extremely critical condition before succumbing to his injuries about 4:13 a.m.

The man's identity was not released, pending notification of his family members.

The suspect was described only as an unknown male, last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and pants. There wasn't word on a motive, and police reported no arrest.

As with all homicides, the city was offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Philadelphia police.
