Forecasters: Snow returns to Philadelphia area Tuesday
It's now officially spring, but more snow is on its way to the Philadelphia region.
The National Weather Service says a few inches of snow are expected to fall between Tuesday morning and early Wednesday, with most of the Philadelphia area seeing between 1.5 and 3.5 inches.
Forecasters say the snow is expected to start near the end of or shortly after the Tuesday morning commute. Periods of snow are most likely between noon Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday, the weather service said, though a chance of the white stuff persists through around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Philadelphia could set a snowfall record. The weather service says the record snowfall for March 25 at Philadelphia International Airport is 1.7 inches, set in 1965.
The Philadelphia area is likely to fare better than other places along the East Coast, however, as AccuWeather forecasters say New England residents should brace for a blizzard Tuesday night.
Temperatures here are expected to dip below freezing Tuesday night, meaning untreated roads and sidewalks are likely to be slick Wednesday morning.
"It is spring, however winter does not want to give up," a weather service forecast discussion says.
The beginning of the week will be colder than normal, with forecasted highs of 37 degrees today and Tuesday, and 38 degrees Wednesday. Wednesday is also expected to be windy.
Normal highs for this time of year are in the mid-50s.
