- 70% of these welfare states ARE Democrat and DID vote for Obama. That's not a biased or prejudiced statement. It is backed up by this news story. And that 70% inlcudes California, Illinois, and Ohio which have among the highest populations in the nation. The four southern states on the list do not add up to ONE of these states in terms of welfare recipients. Very, very slanted news article - as usual in the MSM. The Monk
- Did you actually read the article? You do realize military members are government employees?

@ The Monk - I agree! How funny is THAT, that they published this conceding that Democrats just don't get it!!! Professor1982
I read the original article in forbes and it didn't mention the political leadership of the states, it made a very logical conclusion on the sustainability of these states to keep going like they are. Unfunded pension liabilities are becoming far more of a weight on states than welfare and medicaid. Over 50% of PA's new spending is on public sector pensions.
rmg154- Oh the liberal spin. A factually correct statement about spiral deaths is spun so that some jerks email gets dissected and the point of the original "Death Spiral" is lost. The content was talking about the total numbers of people that are taking from the system versus putting in. When you have more going out (and who cares where it goes welfare, pensions) then you have coming in you are on a slow but certain death. That is why so many cities are going bankrupt. The states are next. I long for the days of Democrat President Kennedy that stated: Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country. Kennedy was the last real democrat that didn't want the government to be the "be all end all" for the people. Governments were designed to work for the people not to figure out how people can not work!
Oh you mean conservatives were just pulling something out of their a**es?
And that's supposed to be news?? Do us a favor from now on and tell us when Republicans AREN'T making stuff up. That would be news. wokmaster
Funny how it is true in so many cases yet seems to be refuted by a democratic agendra driven writer in a liberal agenda democratic driven rag.......but then again, the Emperor declared it to be so, so relax sheep, it is okay to have no work ethic, be a taker and expect to given everything.... nuggett
They will eventually get bailed out by the federal government once the feds borrow more money from China. jasjfarrell
No mention of our bloated, out of control, overpopulated military? I would sure call them "dependent on government" and 2 out of 4 are just dead weight. And for states like California with a large number of bases and military personnel, I'd say that is indeed helping the "death spiral". CiceroSpuriousDeodatusTheSecond
Don't let other people's reality get in the way of the truth. Like there aren't people on welfare who don't move on to be productive citizens. meteo30
Exactly Cicero...do we really need to spend as much as the whole world COMBINED on our military? Are we that scared? Problem is the military has it's fingers in so many pies now that there's no way someone can bring up cutting the military without it directly affecting someone you know, which makes it easy to fan the flames of hysteria for people who decide things impulsively without reading up on facts. Otherwise known as most of this country. th
I do live in one of those states and I can't wait to get out of it. Philly > Mississippi. The_Z_Man_97
We should start shooting fascists who write this type of misleading propaganda. orange rhino
