The FBI has raided the office of a Florida doctor who is a longtime ally of Sen. Bob Menendez.
FBI agents hauled several vans of evidence from the office of Dr. Salomon Melgen in West Palm Beach late Tuesday, according to the Miami Herald.
Investigators are believed to be probing the eye doctor's finances and alleged trips the senator made to the Dominican Republic, including claims made by purported prostitutes there. Menendez has denied the allegations. A spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment on the raid.
Ties between Menendez and Melgen first made news in November, when Tucker Carlson's conservative Daily Caller reported the claims.
Last week, a dossier of emails about the allegations, purportedly between an FBI agent and a tipster, began circulating.
Menendez told the Daily Caller on Monday that those reports are "fallacious allegations."
Melgen is also a contributor to Menendez and other politicians.
The doctor owns a private plane and frequently travels between Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic, according to the Herald. Menendez has flown on the plane at least once, but his office has said he did nothing improper.
