Cops: Masked man robbed liquor store with fake machine gun

Police are looking for a man who allegedly used a fake machine gun to rob a New Jersey liquor store Wednesday night.

Police are looking for a man who allegedly used a fake machine gun to rob a New Jersey liquor store Wednesday night.

Officers with the Mount Holly Township Police Department were shortly before 10 p.m. dispatched to Rancocas Wine & Liquors for a report of a robbery.

They were told a man wearing a white mask and gloves had burst into the store demanding cash.

The suspect was carrying what appeared to be an automatic weapon with a black sock over the end, according to investigators. After the clerk handed over the money, the suspect allegedly stole a bottle of liquor and ran away.

Police said further inspection of surveillance photos revealed the gun was actually an Airsoft-style weapon. The sock may have been used to cover up the phony firearm's orange tip, according to investigators.

No injuries were reported during the crime. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mount Holly Township Police Department Investigations Bureau at 609-267-8300.
