Cops: Nine people shot in 24 hours in Philly

Nine people were shot in a 24-hour period in the city this weekend, including six people who were injured in two separate triple shootings, according to police.

The bloodshed began at 11:53 p.m. Friday, when an unknown person or persons opened fire on Parrish Street near 12th in North Philadelphia. Injured in that hail of gunfire was an 18-year-old man who was shot once in the buttocks and taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition; a 17-year-old boy who was shot once in the left hip and once in the back and was taken to the same hospital in critical condition; and a 19-year-old man who was shot in the right leg and chest and taken to Hahnemann in stable condition, police said.

Cops did not release a motive or suspects in the shootings.

Just hours later, at 3:38 a.m. Saturday on Cheltenham Avenue near 18th Street in West Oak Lane, three more people were hurt in a second triple shooting that also remains unsolved. Police said a 43-year-old woman was shot in both of her feet and taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition; a 30-year-old woman was shot once in her right foot and once in her abdomen and taken to Einstein in critical; and a 32-year-old man who was shot once in the right arm was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

At 10 p.m. Saturday, the city marked its only homicide so far this weekend when a 29-year-old man was shot five times on Jefferson Street near 60th in Overbrook, police said. The victim, whose identity was not released, was shot once in the head, leg, groin, buttocks and knee. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 2:33 a.m. Police have no arrest in the case.

However, an arrest was made in the shooting of an 18-year-old man on 32nd Street near Berks that happened at 11:23 p.m. Saturday. Police said the victim was shot once in the chest and taken by a private vehicle to Hahnemann where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Police did not release the identity of the alleged shooter or the victim.

Just a minute after that shooting, at 11:24 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot once in the lower back on Trinity Street near 67th in Southwest Philadelphia. Police said the man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he remains in stable condition. No arrests have been made in the case.
