Cold causes public transit troubles
This morning's bitter cold weather is contributing to a number of delays on the region's public transit systems.
On SEPTA's Regional Rail, service was suspended on the Trenton Regional Rail Line for more than four hours this morning because of downed Amtrak wires.
SEPTA said the first inbound Trenton Line train would depart at 11:48 a.m., and the first outbound train is scheduled for 12:03 p.m.
Downed Amtrak wires also have suspended service between the Malvern and Thorndale stations on the Paoli-Thorndale Line.
A number of other Regional Rail train lines are also reporting delays.
SEPTA said all trolley passengers should expect delays because of the weather. For part of the morning, shuttle bus service was in place for the entirety of routes 101 and 102 due to overhead power problems, but trolley service was restored around 9 a.m.
The transit agency said no A or B trains would run on the Market-Frankford subway lines; all trains would be local. For part of the morning, eastbound trains were seeing delays of up to 15 minutes as a result of the cold and equipment issues.
For about an hour and a half, service on the Broad Street Line's Broad-Ridge Spur was also experiencing delays of 10 minutes due to equipment problems, though SEPTA said normal service resumed shortly before 11 a.m.
And on PATCO, trains are on local service only, with no express trains running this morning. For about five hours, from morning through the early afternoon, trains were only running ever 20 minutes due to emergency track work. The work ended shortly before 2:30 p.m., PATCO said.
New Jersey Transit was reporting delays this morning on the River Line due to a track-switch problem in Pennsauken, but said those issues were resolved by 8:30 a.m.
N.J. Transit delays were also occurring in North Jersey, between New Brunswick and New York's Penn Station, due to Amtrak signal problems.
N.J. Transit said tickets would be cross-honored system wide today and Wednesday because of the cold, and the transit agency was extending hours at rail station buildings and waiting rooms.
