Bag in your mail? Stamp out Hunger

That brown bag you found in your mail this week?  Don't toss it.

The bag is from the National Association of Letter Carriers, which is launching its 21st annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive tomorrow.

The bags were delivered by 175,000 mail carriers to residents in 10,000 cities and towns in the U.S. Residents are asked to fill the bags with canned goods, boxes, or jars of non-perishable food. It is billed as the nation's largest one-day food drive.

Last year, the NALC said its carriers collected 70.7 million pounds of food donations. The food will be brought to local food banks, pantries or shelters.

National partners include AARP, Valpak Direct Marketing Systems, Valassis/Red Plum, the U.S. Postal Service, United Way Worldwide, the AFL-CIO, Uncle Bob's Self Storage. GLS Companies, Source Direct Plastics and the Publix grocery store chain.

The Camden-based Campbell Soup Co. is donating 75 million postcards to mail to postal customers to remind them of the drive along with one million pounds of food and one million bags.
