Amtrak service suspended, restored between D.C. and Philadelphia

Amtrak service between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia has been restored.

Amtrak service between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia has been restored.

The train service was suspended for several hours from late morning through early afternoon due to overhead wire damage that occurred in Maryland.

Amtrak cautioned that customers should still expect delays due to congestion and single-track operations while repairs are continuing.

The electrical system problems affected Northeast Corridor and Amtrak Acela Express trains.

Suspended service was first announced between Baltimore and Wilmington around 11:45 a.m. after extensive wire damage occurred earlier in the morning. The service disruption was later extended to Philadelphia and D.C.

Amtrak said customers who paid for a ticket but chose not to travel due to the service disruption can get a refund or voucher.

Amtrak is providing service updates on its Twitter feed.
