Suspicious device evacuates AC airport

UPDATED at 2:42 p.m.:

The Atlantic City airport was evacuated for about 90 minutes today after a suspicious device was reported to authorities.

"They were acting out of an abundance of caution," said Lt. Steven Jones, of the New Jersey State police. "The item that was reported suspicious turned out not to be."

An electronic device in one of the bathrooms had fallen apart and exposed some wires, Jones said. The airport postponed flights as K-9s swept the building. The dogs found nothing of concern, Jones said.

Atlantic City International Airport has been evacuated and flights have been suspended after a report of a suspcious package found possibly in a restroom, according to the South Jersey Transportation Authority, which operates the facility.

Few details were available.

But the evacuation started shortly before 1 p.m. today and impacted at least one terminal.

Check back for details as they develop.
