Thousands of free SEPTA tokens, courtesy of Stovetop

Thousands of free SEPTA tokens - and lots of free parking - will be given out tomorrow and Wednesday morning, courtesy of Stovetop, the stuffing-mix maker.

The schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each day at the 15th and Market Streets, according to the company.

They'll be at street level, giving out tokens worth $2 for rides on buses, subways and trolleys, said SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams.

The company also has city permission to feed parking kiosks in the area from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. both days, Stovetop spokeswoman Jill Felska said.

The giveaway - which includes coupon booklets and an online contest - is the first stop for a national promotion called Spread the Warmth.

The booklets, also being handed out both mornings, will have one coupon for a free box of Stovetop stuffing, another coupon "to spread the warmth" to a friend, as well as information about the contest.

Basically, the winner of an essay contest will win $2,500 and a charity of that person's choice will get $5,000. The essay should tell, in 200 words or less, how the entrant has helped others.

For contest and campaign information go to: www.spreadthewarmth.com.

Make the RENDELL pay out of his own thieving pocket. Nobody cried when Pennsylvania Gov Rendell the Crock and the rest of the crooked Pennsylvania legislature held a top secret 2am meeting to vote for a pay raise for themselves. As for seeing the book. SEPTA probably is stealing the UNION pension funds. TWU 234 President WILLIE Brown should of held out to see the books

Meanwhile, there will be a huge traffic jam and a street riot, unless hundreds of extra police are sent in to keep order. Will the Stovetop people pay for the overtime? Don't make me laugh. Things like this always end badly. Permission for this should have been denied.

Why do they need city permission to feed the parking meters? Is it against the law for me to put in some change in an expiring meter if its not my car? Way to live up to the image of the city of brotherly love.

@LoudKathy: your moniker fits. This has nothing to do with Septa- it's a promotional effort.

It was probably not a good idea to publicize this in advance. It can turn out badly...

I love that I can't get my money back for my monthly septa pass until the end of the month since I got it through my college CCP. I have a funny feeling a bunch of these passes will get "lost" in the mail.

Does dredging the Delaware River really matter? Plans by the Army Corps of Engineers to deepen the navigation channel from 40 to 45 feet have generated support from shipping companies and heated opposition from environmentalists.
