Police name suspect in hit-run of twin sisters

Hit-run outside Phils’ NL title game turns fatal

A South Philadelphia man died last night from extensive injuries sustained in a hit-run accident at the sports complex during the game in which Phillies won the National League pennant, according to police.

Roughly between 10:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 21, Nicholas Medora, 42, was run over in the Jetro parking lot on South Darien Street, across from Lincoln Financial Field.

A witness said he saw a fight break out among a group of men who were drinking toward the rear of the lot, closer to I-95 than Pattison Avenue, according to Officer O'Neill, of the Accident Investigation Division. Several men then got into a white SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, which was backing up when it struck Medora, the witness said.

Of the driver, O'Neill said, "He takes off, and he leaves the parking lot."

The Suburban may have had New Jersey license plates, he said.

Medora suffered broken ribs on both sides of his body, as well as a broken right arm and right collarbone, and remained at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after the accident, O'Neill said.

Although conscious enough to speak with O'Neill early in the investigation, Medora recently went into a coma and was pronounced dead at 10:59 last night.

Whether Medora knew any of the men who reportedly got into the SUV is unclear, O'Neill said.

Also uncertain is whether Medora, was standing or on the ground at the time of the accident, he said.

Medora lived in the 5700 block of Randolph Street in South Philadelphia.

Because he had been watching the game on an iPhone, the witness knew the accident happened during the eighth inning of the Phillies' 10-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, O'Neill said.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or 3181.

Drinking and driving at the sports complex"? I find that hard to believe. Seriously though, 4 out of 5 drivers pulling out of those parking lots after a game are completely wasted. I'm shocked this sort of thing doesn't happen every game.

A hit-and-run fatality in Philly? At the sports complex?Unbelievable! Wonder why I park way up Oregon Ave and walk to the games. The parking lots around there look like bumper cars after all the soused fans leave the stadium. I know I take my life in my hands walking, but I'm willing to take my chances.

It is kind of ironic how the city looks the other way when it comes to stuff like this. They know people are wasted leaving concerts & games, yet they simply allow it. I constantly see beer & alcohol bottles on the median that runs down Roosevelt Blvd. Doesn't that indicate that people are thowing this stuff out the window as they drive down route 1? Shouldn't something be done about that?

Twice in the last 6 weeks of the season I saw guys sleeping on the concrete in the parking lots at the stadium. One of those times he was half underneath my car on the drivers side. We had to shout and shake him several times to get him up. had he been on the other side of the car, I never would have seen him. We had to tell him it probably wasn't wise to be sleeping in between cars in the parking lot.

Why aren't the police making more DUI arrests outside and around the stadium complex after games and concerts? So many of these drivers are drunk and getting on 95 on some other major highway. This is a total no brainer for law enforcement yet I don't see a thing being done about it when I attend an event down there.

the injuries listed don't appear life threatening. sounds like someone at Jeff's ER didn't do a good eval.

Time to ban ALL alcohol at the stadiums, arenas and parking lots. The events should be a place to enjoy the game, not get drunk and maim & kill others, and ruin the event for all.
