$66K in jewelry stolen from car in West Philadelphia
Police are asking for help finding the thief who stole $66,000 in jewelry from an elderly man's vehicle outside a cash-for-gold store in West Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police said the incident happened at about 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 2, when a 74-year-old man parked his car on the unit block of North 52nd Street and went inside a cash-for-gold store on the block.
When he returned to the vehicle a short time later, the front passenger-side window was shattered and a duffel bag that contained about $66,000 worth of jewelry was missing.
The bag was carrying various necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, police said.
A witness reported seeing a man on bicycle break the window with a hammer, take the bag and flee, authorities said.
Police this week released surveillance footage from the incident and of the suspect circling the block on a bike.
The suspect is described as a black man with light facial hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, camouflage pants and sunglasses. He was seen riding a green or teal bicycle.
