3 slain in Philadelphia overnight

Philadelphia police are investigating three overnight shooting deaths.

The deaths mark an unusually high number of slayings in the city in recent days -- six people have been killed since Tuesday evening.

No arrests have been made in any of the killings.

The most recent death happened this morning, when a man suffering gunshot wounds to his face, back and buttocks was found in an alley on the 3700 block of M Street in the Harrowgate section, police said.

The victim, described as a 17- to 19-year-old man, was found around 8 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.

Overnight, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot on the 5600 block of Lansdowne Avenue in Carroll Park at about 2 a.m., police said. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a hospital about 20 minutes later.

A 21-year-old man was shot in his chest, shoulder and arm shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 1700 block of Wylie Street in Francisville, police said.

The man died at a hospital at about 4 a.m.

The slayings happened after two other people were fatally shot Tuesday evening and another person was stabbed to death Wednesday morning.

Tuesday night, 20-year-old Amanda Martinez was killed in a quadruple shooting in Kensington and 18-year-old Marquis Battle died after he was shot biking in West Philadelphia.

Then, Wednesday morning, a woman was fatally stabbed in a West Oak Lane apartment. Police this morning identified her as 38-year-old Kendra Burton. An argument led to that slaying, police said.

None of the killings are believed to be related. The deaths have coincided with a two-day stretch of record-high temperatures.
