2nd passenger dies in Delaware tour bus crash

Two people were killed and dozens of others were injured, including three who remain in critical condition this morning, after a tour bus crashed in Delaware on Sunday.

Delaware State Police said 30-year-old Idil Bahsi, of Istanbul, died late Sunday at the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where she was taken after the 4:20 p.m. crash in New Castle, according to Delaware State Police.

Police this morning also identified 54-year-old Hua'y Chen, of New York City, as the woman who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after having been pinned under the bus, which overturned and slid on its roof down an embankment.

Three other passengers remained in critical condition late this morning, police said.

Authorities said the 1996 Setra Touring Coach Bus was carrying 49 passengers when it crashed on the exit ramp from State Route 1 south to U.S. Route 13 north.

The bus, owned by New York-based AM USA Express, veered off the roadway while traveling on a moderate curve on the ramp, police said, and overturned before coming to a stop on its side.

The driver, identified as 56-year-old Jinli Zhao, of Flushing, N.Y., was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, authorities said.

The other 47 passengers on the bus were also hurt and taken to various area hospitals, with three to five of them initially listed in critical condition, according to police.

About 15 people remain hospitalized, while the others were treated and released overnight and this morning.

Police said the passengers were part of a sightseeing tour group sponsored by E World Travel and Tours out of New York City. The group departed for the three-day trip from New York to Washington, D.C., on Friday, and were traveling back to New York at the time of the crash.

Authorities said circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, though neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to be a factor.

No charges had been filed as of this morning.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
