A 15-year-old girl who was struck by a car Saturday evening in Washington Township died Monday at Cooper University Hospital.

Gavyn Connolly of Sicklerville died about 3 p.m., police said.

"On behalf of Chief Rafael Muniz, the Washington Township Police Department is extending its deepest sympathies to the family of Gavyn Connolly during this difficult time," the department said in a post on its Facebook page identifying Connolly on Monday evening.

Connolly was crossing the median of Route 42 near Greentree Road around 8:10 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Yaris driven by a 21-year-old Stratford resident struck her, police said.

An ambulance took her to Cooper University Hospital's trauma center, and friends expressed support for her on social media. On Monday, they mourned her loss.

"RIP Gavyn Connolly," a Twitter account called "TC Class of 2019," for Timber Creek Regional High School in Sicklerville, where Connolly lived, said Monday. "You will have a special place in everyone's heart here at Timber Creek."

The driver who struck Connolly was not injured and has not been charged. Police are investigating the incident.

Connolly's family could not be reached Monday evening.
