A Salem woman died when her car ran off U.S. Route 40 in Carneys Point and into a creek, police said. Her body was recovered from the floating vehicle on Sunday.

Police said Cathy Shorter, 60, made a wrong turn from the driveway of the Salem County Sportsmens Club on Saturday evening after a family event there, drove down a boat ramp instead of Route 40, and ended up in the water, where she apparently drowned.

The car was spotted floating in the water by an employee Sunday morning, police said. The woman's body was recovered by local rescue and fire personnel.

An autopsy by the Salem County medical examiner was scheduled for Monday morning.
