Yangming to get three citations, may reopen soon

Radnor Township officials said Friday they were issuing three citations to the Main Line Chinese restaurant shut down after a significant roach infestation.

Radnor Township officials said Friday they were issuing three citations to the Main Line Chinese restaurant shut down after a significant roach infestation.

Yangming in Bryn Mawr faced citations for keeping food in unsanitary conditions, failure to control insects and rodents, and storing food or food containers below sanitary lines, said William Colarulo, superintendent of police.

The citations typically result in a fine from a district judge.

When reached by phone, restaurant manager Alan Huynh said he was not aware of the specific citations.

The restaurant is moving quickly to address the problems, he said. Contractors are renovating the plumbing and electric lines, cleaning the basement, and removing or replacing old or unnecessary items and equipment.

"We are making sure everything is up to 2015 codes," said Huynh. The last renovation was 25 years ago, he said.

The structural problems that were uncovered during a second and more thorough inspection of the 100-year-old building last week were not as serious as first thought, said Colarulo.

"It is something easily corrected," he said.

Colarulo said the restaurant may open as early as next week if the renovations are complete.

The restaurant apologized to patrons on its Facebook page on Tuesday, promising to renovate and refurbish the establishment.

"There are no excuses. We owe you better," the post said. "We hope you will give us another chance to gain your trust."

During a routine inspection in late July, inspectors discovered violations and were working with the restaurant to correct them. But officials shut the place down after customers complained that bugs were in the food.
