Former NYPD officer to be featured at 9/11 ceremony

LOWER MAKEFIELD The Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield, Pennsylvania's official memorial for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, will host its remembrance on the day's anniversary this year.

The event, which will start at 7 p.m., will feature Arnold Roma, a retired New York police officer who responded to the attack on the World Trade Center but also lost his son when the towers collapsed.

Roma, who responded to the South Tower, survived its collapse. But his son, Keith, who was conducting rescue operations with the New York Fire Patrol, died during the collapse of the North Tower. Roma later helped to recover his son's body on Christmas Eve 2001.

"Arnie symbolizes the courage, honor and valor that was displayed on 9/11," said Valerie Mihalek, program director for the Garden of Reflection. "His story represents those who survived. But it also represents those who did not."
