Hawks to be used in family pilot program

TRAINER Hawks, as in big birds, are set to be used to help ex-cons and their families strengthen their bonds through a "Nature and Nurture" program.

On Thursday between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Henry Johnson Park, a demonstration with the raptors is scheduled to take place as part of a pilot program with Rodney Stotts, an ex-offender and one of the few black falconers in America. The program will focus on leadership, teamwork, wildlife restoration and conservation, environmental education, and ecological awareness.

The program is to be led by Akiima Price, a nationally recognized urban environmentalist and educator, and hosted by Pastor Keith Collins of the Church of the Overcomer and Richard "Tut" Carter of the Chester Re-Entry Resource Center. - Mari A. Schaefer
