Bad day for SEPTA's 84 buses: Dozen injured in two crashes

Twelve people were hospitalized Monday in two crashes involving SEPTA's Route 84 bus line.

In the first, 10 people were hospitalized after a minivan ran a red light in Frankford and crashed into two vehicles, including a bus, about 10 a.m., police said.

The minivan was traveling north on Torresdale Avenue when it struck a vehicle traveling east on Bridge Street, Sgt. Joseph Rossa of the Accident Investigation District said. The impact pushed the minivan into a Route 84 bus.

The bus driver was uninjured, and the bus suffered minor damage, Rossa said.

The minivan's driver and its three passengers were taken to Aria Health-Frankford Campus. Six passengers from the bus were taken to the hospital with complaints of pain, Rossa said.

Rossa said the minivan's driver, whose name was not released, would likely be cited but not face serious criminal charges.

In the second crash, four hours later, a car rear-ended a stopped Route 84 bus in the 8100 block of State Road in Holmesburg.

The car was heading south on State when it slammed into the bus about 2 p.m. Police reported minor injuries to the bus driver and a passenger, both of whom complained of back pain. The driver of the car, whose name was not released, was not hurt.
