Bryn Mawr, MCCC leaders to visit

White House

Kim Cassidy, interim president of Bryn Mawr College, and Karen A. Stout, president of Montgomery County Community College, are scheduled to be among 150 people to meet Thursday with President Obama and his wife, Michelle.

The group of higher education, government, philanthropic, and business leaders is to be in Washington for a White House summit on increasing college opportunity and completion rates for low-income and disadvantaged students.

According to a statement from Bryn Mawr, Cassidy was invited because of Bryn Mawr's "demonstrated commitment to and success in developing programs to address this critical national issue."

MCCC said it is focused on three specific initiatives aimed at improving access for low-income and disadvantaged students. They are redesigning student entry and advising processes, developing a multi-platform model for student engagement, and expanding its minority student mentoring initiative.

The summit is an all-day event and is expected to be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live.
