Wawa ups reward in series of robberies at same store
Wawa has doubled to $10,000 the reward for information in a series of armed robberies since October at the same store in Northeast Philadelphia.
The reward was increased Monday after the store on the 6400 block of Bustleton Avenue on Oxford Circle was robbed for a fifth time overnight.
As in the previous cases, the bandit was masked and brandished a gun about 1:45 a.m., police said. He escaped with cash and a carton on Newport cigarettes.
In all but the first stickup - when two masked gunman made off with cash on Oct. 1 - the robber was alone.
Police are looking into possibility that the same person was involved in more than one of the robberies.
The most recent robbery before Monday's was on Nov. 26.
Lori Bruce, spokeswoman for Wawa, said in an e-mail that the firm considers the safety of its employees and customers a priority "and we have been pursuing all avenues, including offering a reward and increasing security, to ensure a swift resolution to this situation."
"Since November, we have taken additional measures which included the intermittent closing of the store overnight," she said.
