Gloucester Twp. policeman wounded by own gun

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP An off-duty township police officer was injured when his privately owned gun went off while he was unloading it, police said.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP An off-duty township police officer was injured when his privately owned gun went off while he was unloading it, police said.

The accident occurred just before 3 a.m. Sunday in the officer's home on Bromley Drive, police said in a brief statement.

Deputy Chief David Harkins would not identify the officer. He said the weapon was a .40-caliber pistol.

The officer suffered a minor hand wound, and was treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, according to the release.

The Gloucester Township Police Professional Standards Bureau is investigating.
