Police: Charity ride bike thief arrested
The thief who stole 15 Tour De Shore charity ride bicycles from a Center City pub last month has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Police credited surveillance video and tips from the public in identifying Daniel Byrd, 21, as the alleged thief.
Byrd, of the 2100 block of Spring Street in Center City, was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft, criminal trespass and related offenses in the disappearance of the bicycles, valued at $22,000.
Riders who participated in the Tour De Shore charity ride on July 28 were storing their bicycles at The Irish Pub, on the 2000 block of Walnut Street near Rittenhouse Square, when they were stolen about 4:35 a.m. July 30.
