Two hurt jumping from W. Phila. fire
Two women were injured Wednesday after jumping out of a second-floor apartment to escape flames in a four-story apartment building in West Philadelphia.
The fire on the 1000 block of South 48th Street was reported about 6:30 p.m. and was quickly brought under control, a spokesman for the Fire Department said.
The women did not suffer burns or smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross reported that it was assisting 28 people displaced by the blaze, though most were expected either to return tonight or to be provided with hotel rooms by the apartment building management. The fire was under investigation. - Bob Fernandez
