Brrr ... coldest stretch in 2 years?

Welcome to this winter's coldest stretch of days.

Welcome to this winter's coldest stretch of days.

It could wind up as the longest period with lows under 30 in nearly two years.

And yet, it's typical January weather.

In Philadelphia, November had two days fall into the 20s, and December had just one. But starting with Wednesday, when the low hit 27, temperatures might fall into the upper 20s every night for five or six straight days, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.

Highs aren't expected to reach the mid 40s again till Monday or Tuesday.

On the plus side, no precipitation - rain or snow - is expected over the next week.

Last winter never had five straight days as chilly.

The winter before, though, had a stretch from Jan. 20 to Feb. 13 - two dozen days - with lows ranging from 8 to 32 and highs from 24 to 42, with only a few slightly warmer highs.

Of course, it's one thing to forecast the upper 20s and another to have it happen.

Weather.com sees slightly higher lows over the weekend - in the lower 30s.

Highs could be back in the upper 40s next week, and even in the low 50s by Friday, Jan. 11, according to AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service looks only a week ahead.
