Travel-at-a-Glance

Travelers continue to encounter obstacles today. Mass transit is slowly resuming and roads are being reopened. But many services remain closed and downed trees, power lines, and flooding continue to block roads throughout the region.

The following list of transportation services will be updated as changes in service are reported:

SEPTA:  SERVICE LARGELY RESTORED TO NORMAL, SOME EXCEPTIONS. SEPTA services began returning at noon. The Broad Street and Market-Frankford Lines opened at that time, running normal schedules. The Norristown High Speed Line and city trolley routes also began running normal schedules at noon. City and suburban buses are largely back to normal service, with the exception of some routes being detoured due to road conditions. The Media-Sharon Hill Lines also opened at noon. The Media Trolley opened only up to Woodland Avenue.

SEPTA REGIONAL RAIL: NORMAL SCHEDULE TOMORROW. All Regional Rail lines will resume a normal weekday schedule tomorrow morning. Some "residual delays" may persist, but operation should be largely normal.

Philadelphia International Airport: MOST FLIGHTS CANCELLED, SOME STILL ON FOR AFTERNOON. The airport is open and operational, but most airlines have cancelled their flights for the day. Delta has resumed some flights and some cargo flights are resuming as well. Parking lots and roads are passable without flooding. Customers with existing ticket reservations should contact their airline directly. PATCO: RESUMES AT 6 P.M. TODAY; MODIFIED RUSH HOUR SCHEDULE TOMORROW. PATCO will resume service at 6 p.m. tonight, with trains departing every half hour. At 6 p.m., one train will leave from Lindenwold, New Jersey and another will leave from 15th and 16th and Locust Streets in Philadelphia. They will then run east/west every 30 minutes. After midnight, trains will run regular Night Owl schedules. Tomorrow, trains run on a modified rush hour schedule: from 6-7 a.m., they leave every 15 minutes. From 7-9 a.m., they leave every ten minutes. Those trains will run at reduced speeds. Beginning at 9 a.m., trips between the east and west terminals will take 37 minutes, about 11 minutes longer than normal.

DRPA bridges: FULLY OPEN. The Delaware River Port Authority has opened its four Pennsylvania-New Jersey bridges to all traffic. The Betsy Ross, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Benjamin Franklin Bridges are open, but access may be limited (see road information below).

PennDOT: NO HIGHWAY RESTRICTIONS, NO SPEED LIMIT RESTRICTIONS. Philadelphia highways are open, but with localized road closures (see road information below). The 45 m.p.h. speed limit restrictions has been lifted.

NJ DOT: GARDEN STATE PKWY OPEN; BRIDGES OPEN; NO TRANSIT. The Garden State Parkway is open. The New Jersey Turnpike is closed southbound between exits 10 and 14 due to debris. Northbound lanes in that section are open. The Turnpike remains closed between Exits 14 and 14C. Additionally, the southbound ramp at Exit 15W to I-280 is closed due to a washout. Transit service remains suspended. All toll bridges are open to all traffic. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry will resume operations at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, after receiving Coast Guard approval. Local closures include Admiral Wilson Boulevard, which is closed between the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and Airport Circle in Pennsauken because of flooding. The NJ 47 closed in Westville at Broadway Avenue because of flooding. For more, see below. 

PPA: Parking fees will be enforced Wednesday. Mayor Nutter announced a temporary lift on meters and kiosks for Monday and Tuesday, but that ends.

AMTRAK: Amtrak will operate Keystone Service trains between Harrisburg and Philadelphia on Wednesday. Modified Northeast Regional service between Newark, N.J., and points south on Wednesday, NOT INTO MANHATTAN. No Acela Express service for the length of the Northeast Corridor on Wednesday. All services in the Northeast Corridor were suspended Tuesday, including Acela Express, Northeast Regional, Keystone, and Shuttle services. Inspection has begun to assess damage. Amtrak is contacting passengers who provided contact information with their reservations, and updates are posted to Amtrak.com/alerts.

Major Roads: Admiral Wilson Blvd. is closed northbound, as it runs through Pennsauken and Camden, toward the Ben Franklin Bridge, due to flooding from the Cooper River. U.S. 130 North, at the Airport Circle, in Pennsauken, is also closed due to flooding.

Other roads: Pennsylvania and New Jersey's 511 websites have live traffic maps. On Pennsylvania's map (www.511pa.com/Traffic.aspx) choose options on the right hand side to show reported incidents across the state. New Jersey's map (www.511nj.org/trafficmap.aspx) includes reported traffic incidents, congestion, and detours by default. Delaware has a real-time travel advisory website at http://www.deldot.gov/public.ejs?command=PublicTrafficReportDisplay. PennDOT has an additional road closure report, updated roughly every hour and showing all closed state routes, at ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/transfer/RoadClosures/Roadway_Closures.pdf.

Other Bridges:  The Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridge is fully open. The Riverside-Delanco Bridge was re-closed mid-afternoon due to flooding.

US 40 both directions, West of CR 617/CR 559, (MM47.2), Hamilton Twp, all lanes closed and detoured (flooding).
