7-Eleven clerk shot, killed in Del. holdup

A 46-year-old, 7-Eleven convenience store clerk was shot and killed overnight by two masked bandits during a robbery at a Newark, Del. store.

A 46-year-old, 7-Eleven convenience store clerk was shot and killed overnight by two masked bandits during a robbery at a Newark, Del. store.

Delaware State Police say two men entered the store on the Four Seasons Parkway about 12:40 a.m. today.

The bandits confronted the male clerk and demanded money. The clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of cash.

But then, as both suspects were fleeing the store, one of the suspects armed with the handgun turned and fired at least one shot, striking the clerk in the upper body, police said.

The men, described only as black males wearing dark clothing and masks, fled.

The clerk's name is being withheld until relatives are notified. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death.

Delaware State Police Homicide Detectives are conducting interviews, reviewing surveillance video, and collecting evidence at the crime scene in an attempt to identify the robbers.
