Police in Middle Twp., Cape May County, have charged the driver of a car that struck and killed two teen girls last night with vehicular homicide and drunk driving.

Police in Middle Twp., Cape May County, have charged the driver of a car that struck and killed two teen girls last night with vehicular homicide and drunk driving.

The girls, aged 15 and 13, were walking eastbound along the shoulder of Bayshore Road about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a car driven by Joshua Malmgren, according to police.

The accident occurred in front of the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company, and just off Route 47, in Cape May Court House.

Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner said in a statement that police responding to the call found the deceased bodies of the girls on the roadway when the arrived.

The girls have been identified as Nioami Lazicki, 15, of the Green Creek section of Middle Township, and her cousin, Ashley Dauber, 13, of Northeast Philadelphia.

Malmgren, 30, of Lower Township, was still at the scene, police said.

Investigators say Malmgren had been driving his car eastbound on Bayshore Road when he traveled onto the shoulder, striking two of three teen girls who were on foot.

Malmgren was charged with two counts of death by vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane of travel and consumption of alcoholic beverage by an operator of a motor vehicle.

He was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Malmgren faces 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison if convicted, authorities say.

Condolences were poring in throughout the day on Lazicki's Facebook page, where the two are photographed together.

Lazicki lists Cape May County Technical High School as part of her education background, and that she planned to graduate in 2015 from Middle Township High School.

Dauber's Facebook page lists her as attending Austin Meehan Middle School in Northeast Philadelphia in 2011.

The investigation was conducted by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene Units and the Middle Township Patrol Division, Major Crimes Unit and Fatal Accident Unit.
