Biden visit, Phils game could mean I-95 jams today

Phillies fans and a vice presidential motorcade could make for tie-ups on I-76 and I-95 around lunch hour and later in the afternoon.

Phillies fans and a vice presidential motorcade could make for tie-ups on I-76 and I-95 around lunch hour and later in the afternoon.

At 1 p.m., Vice President Biden is scheduled to speak to International Association of Fire Fighters at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

At 1:05, the Phillies are scheduled to take on the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park.

If Biden flies into the airport or drives up from Wilmington, where he has a home, expect his motorcade to stall traffic on I-95 North as fans are flocking to the game.

Fans are advised to arrive early or seek alternate routes. SEPTA's four Sports Express trains on the Broad Street line will leave Fern Rock station at 10:55 a.m., 11:05 a.m., 12:05 p.m., and 12:15 p.m.

Delays would also be likely from I-95 along Biden's route to the Convention City in Center City, such as the Vine Street Expressway (I-676).

It's possible, though, that the Amtrak-frequenting Biden might ride the rails to 30th Street Station, then take other Center City streets.

More I-95 tie-ups are possible when Biden leaves the Convention Center and, later, as fans leave the ballpark.

A Biden spokeswoman said the Secret Service was unlikely to share his travel plans.
