Police: Miami man in deadly crash was stoned, looking for Geno's

A MIAMI MAN told Philadelphia police he crashed his rental car March 25 near the Italian Market in South Philadelphia because he was distracted while looking for nearby Geno's Steaks and listening to the car's GPS device.

But two police officers,who responded to the two-car crash, whichleft an 11-year-old South Jersey girl dead, testified at a preliminary hearing Tuesday that Max Drosi had appeared to be under the influence of marijuana.

Municipal Judge Dawn A. Segal held Drosi, 28, for trial on all charges, including homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault and DUI. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Officer Shawn Hughes, of the Accident Investigation Division, said that despite Drosi's claim that he had last smoked the drug the night before the 12:34 p.m. crash, he smelled of it at the scene and had glassy, bloodshot eyes. A blood test administered by AID Officer Patrick Farrell about two hours after the crash found high levels of marijuana in Drosi's system that would have made him incapable of safely operating a car, pathologist Richard Cohn testified.
