Driver charged in girl’s death

A Florida driver was charged with DUI in a South Philadelphia collision that killed an 11-year-old girl Sunday.

A Florida driver was charged with DUI in a South Philadelphila collision that killed an 11-year-old girl Sunday.

Police did not immediately identify the girl, nor four other people injured in the crash sometime before 12:40 p.m. at the corner of South Eighth Street and Washington Avenue in the Bella Vista section.

Alejandro Drosi, 28, of an unidentified locale in Florida, was driving a Chevy Impala westbound on Washington Avenue, ran a red light and struck a Nissan Xterra traveling south on South Eighth Street, police said. The Impala pushed the Xterra onto the sidewalk, hitting four people, including the girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident also injured a boy, 3; a woman, 25; a man 46, and a woman, 38. One of them was the driver of the Xterra. The injured were transported to Thomas Jefferson and Hahnemann University hospitals, police said.
