Ukrainian hockey coach to remain in custody

A Ukrainian hockey coach who allegedly fondled an underage boy was ordered to remain in custody after waiving bail in federal magistrate court while he awaits trial on sex tourism charges.

Federal prosecutors said Ivan Pravilov, 49, who ran hockey camps and clinics in the northeastern United States, also allegedly threatened another underage boy who witnessed the incident.

Pravilov, who moved to the U.S. in 2007, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 26. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The indictment said Pravilov and a 14-year-old boy spent the night together on January 3 into the following morning at an apartment in East Mount Airy.

On that night, he allegedly touched the boy's genitals and placed the boy's hand on his own genitals.

Federal prosecutors said Pravilov invited the boy, a Ukrainian national, to the U.S.

He had transported the boy from Wilmington to Philadelphia a day earlier to engage in illicit sexual conduct, the indictment said.

The coach is also wanted on an Interpol warrant for a July 2007 assault in the Ukraine.
