‘Job seeker’ steals CHOP charity jar

Police are seeking a man who claimed to be a job seeker and stole a charity jar for the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania from a Southwest Philadelphia auto body shop.

Police are seeking a man who claimed to be a job seeker and stole a charity jar for the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania from a Southwest Philadelphia auto body shop.

The jar contained between $200 and $400, police said in releasing a surveillance video of the theft.

Police said the man entered the office of Twins Auto Body Shop, 2525 S. 72nd St., in the Eastwick section about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday and inquired about employment.

He left and an outside camera catches him checking several times to see if the office is empty before he enters and snatches the jar, police said. He fled on a mountain bike.

The thief is described as thin black male in his 20s, standing about 5-feet, 8-inches tall and sporting a goatee.

He was wearing a light gray or white hooded sweatshirt, gray or black jacket and blue jeans, police said.
