Report of 2000 assault at Penn State pool

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Pennsylvania State University police said they had referred a new allegation of sexual assault to the state Attorney General's Office, but did not say whether it involved former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

The Centre Daily Times reported Sunday that Police Chief Tyrone Parham said the alleged assault "by a known individual" took place in an outdoor pool building sometime between June 1 and Aug. 30, 2000.

The allegation was made to university police on Wednesday by someone who had visited the pool, the Daily Times said.

The paper reported that Parham wouldn't say whether the "known individual" was Sandusky, who was charged with 40 counts of child sex abuse after a two-year investigation by the state Attorney General's Office.

A special committee of the university board of trustees announced Sunday night that it would hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday in Philadelphia in connection with its investigation of the university's actions regarding the abuse reports.

Panel leaders are expected to announce soon the full membership of the investigative group.
