Bail set at $2 million for coach in sex abuse case

Louis Spadaccini, the high school baseball coach charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, was ordered held on $2 million bail at a hearing this morning, court records show.

He must post 10 percent, or $200,000, to get released.

Spadaccini, a court crier who also was a part-time baseball coach at Ss. Neumann-Goretti High School in South Philadelphia, came to police attention Sunday after he allegedly took a 14-year-old student to the Holiday Inn in South Philadelphia, and allegedly gave him beer and a mixed drink spiked with a Xanax pill.

Spadaccini brought the boy home after his parents became concerned and started texting him, police said. The parents, alarmed at how intoxicated the boy was, took him to a hospital.

Police arrested Spadaccini and charged him with corrupting the morals of a minor, endangering the welfare of a minor, and related offenses.

On Tuesday, after the arrest became news, a 13-year-old boy told police that he had sexual contact with Spadaccini three times in recent months - twice at the same Holiday Inn and once at Spadaccini's South Philadelphia.

Police then charged Spadaccini with involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault and other offenses, for which he appeared early today before Arraignment Court Magistrate James O'Brien.

Besides setting bail, O'Brien scheduled Spadaccini's next court appearance for Oct. 7.
