2 wounded, 1 critically, in shooting over parking spot

Two people were shot and wounded, one critically, late Monday in the city's Feltonville section in what police believe was a feud over a parking space.

Shotgun blasts erupted about 11:30 p.m. Monday on the 4500 block of Hurley Street and followed by more than four hours another shooting incident on the same block in which no one was hit, police said.

A 35-year-old woman was taken in critical condition with a shotgun wound to the chest to Temple University Hospital while a man was reported in stable condition with a leg wound.

Police say the gunman fired a shotgun apparently loaded with bird shot through the door of a rowhouse.

Police said at 7 p.m. a man opened fire with a handgun following a dispute over a parking spot and a vandalized van.

No one was hit then, but at 11:30 p.m. shotgun blasts echoed on the street, police said.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said police believe the shotgun fire was in retaliation for the earlier shooting.

Police are looking for a 34-year-old man whose name is known to them.

A woman who lives on the block and who asked not be identified said parking is in short supply on the narrow street or rowhouses and source of tension in the neighborhood.
