Baby, shot pregnant mom likely to survive

A 20-year-old pregnant hit by a stray bullet Tuesday night is likely to survive, and so is her baby, police said this morning.

After undergoing surgery overnight, the woman was recovering in the intensive care unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. when someone opened fire in the 1600 block of North 60th Street in the city's Overbrook section.

The unnamed 20-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, was on a house's front steps when a bullet struck her in the left side, police said.

A 20-year-old man, shot in the left leg, was in stable condition at HUP, after being found two blocks away, near 59th Street and Lansdowne Avenue.

He was reportedly with the woman when they were shot, then fled.
