Arrest in slaying of Penn State senior

U.S. Marshals and police have arrested a man sought in the killing of Mohan Varughese, a Penn State Abington student who was shot dead last week for his motorcycle near Temple University.

Acting on information, lawmen found Jeffrey Little, 19, in a bedroom of a residence on the 3100 block of North 16th Street in North Philadelphia, said Jim Burke, supervisory deputy marshal.

He said Little offered little resistance.

Police said Little, of the 2100 block of North Marvine Street, shot Varughese for his red Kawasaki.

Varughese, 23, was killed on May 9 while visiting his girlfriend, a Temple University student, at a house on Camac Street, a few blocks north of Temple.

The couple and some friends were sitting on the steps in the sun when Little put a gun to the victim's face and demanded the keys to the motorcycle, parked at the curb, Clark said.

Varughese said, "Don't do this," according to police.

Little, who lived just around the corner, then shot Varughese in the chest and cheek and fled without the motorcycle.

He shot Varughese for not moving quick enough, Clark said.

Police identified Little as a suspect on Thursday.

Acting on a tip by an anonymous tipster, marshals and a Swat team converged at 10:15 a.m. Friday on an apartment complex on North 16th Street.

They found Little inside one of the apartments and transported him to Police Headquarters. The tipster, marshals said, is entitled to the $2,500 reward.
