Police were searching for the person who gunned down a 25-year-old man Monday night in West Philadelphia.

Officers were called to the intersection of 51st and Irving Streets about 9 p.m., police said.

The victim, who was not identified, had been shot twice in the chest, police said. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he died about an hour later.

Witnesses reported that a man fled from the scene, police said. No weapon has been found, and the motive is not clear.   - Allison Steele
