Two more priests placed on leave

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced today that two retired priests have been placed on administrative leave while it reviews allegations that they have engaged in inappropriate behavior with minors.

Donna Farrell, spokeswoman for the archdiocese, declined to name the two.

The Inquirer has identified one as the Rev. David Givey, 67. Givey was editor of the Catholic Standard & Times from 1985 to 1992 and served in numerous parishes and chaplaincies since his ordination in 1971.

The two men join 24 other priests suspended by Cardinal Justin Rigali since the February 10 release of a grand jury report on predatory priests in the archdiocese.

That panel asserted that several dozen priests accused of abuse or other aberrant behaviors remained in active ministry despite the archdiocese's "zero tolerance" policy.

Farrell said both priests live in private residences. The archdiocesan directory lists Givey as residing in Somers Point, N.J.
