Three Phila. post offices to close

The U.S Postal Service, which has been steadily losing business because of the Internet, is closing three postal stations throughout Philadelphia.

The U.S Postal Service, which has been steadily losing business because of the Internet, is closing three postal stations in Philadelphia.

Closing on April 22 are:

- Adams Avenue (821 Adams Avenue 19124)

- Girard Avenue (905 N. Broad Street 19123)

- Wissinoming (5916 Torresdale Ave 19135)

The USPS said the decision to close the three stations followed a study conducted last year.

"Given the extraordinary decline in mail volume - a decline of nearly 26 billion pieces this past year alone - we must take action to reduce the size of our retail and delivery network," James J. Gallagher, Philadelphia Metropolitan District Manager, said in a statement.

"By consolidating, streamlining and adjusting our operations, the Postal Service becomes a more efficient and effective organization," he said.

The postal service said customers who now use those post offices can shift to the Frankford Station, 4410 Paul St., 19124; Fairmount Station, 1939 Fairmount Ave., 19130; and Tacony Station, 4620 Longshore Ave., 19135.

Customers also can purchase stamps and shipping labels and request free package pickup at the Postal Service's website, www.usps.com.
