Woman killed by snow plow

A 51-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Delaware Department of Transportation snow plow this morning in Wilmington, police said.

State police said Denise McFadden, of Wilmington, was walking on the Washington Street Extension about 6:30 a.m. when she was hit by a 6-wheeled DOT dump truck equipped with a plow west of Philadelphia Pike in the Penny Hill section.

The driver, Shawn E. Griner, 37 of Wilmington, was plowing the extension and made a U-turn to continue clearing the roadway when he hit McFadden, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said the investigation is continuing.
