Police in Montgomery County have arrested a Blue Bell man and charged him with operating what officials said today was a home-based methamphetamine laboratory.

Francis Nolan, 45, of the 500 block of Belfry Drive, Whitpain Township, was arrested on Saturday after Whitpain Township officers responded to a report of a domestic situation, police said today.

Authorities evacuated the home and called in drug and laboratory specialists for Montgomery County and Pennsylvania State Police.

After obtaining a search warrant, police seized alleged methamphetamine, chemicals, glassware, burner plates and other items that narcotics experts said were part of a working methamphetamine laboratory.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said an investigation showed that Nolan ran the business. All chemicals related to the lab were removed from the house, Ferman said.

Officers charged Nolan with making methamphetamine, risking or causing a catastrophe, possessing drug paraphernalia and related offenses.

He was arraigned Sunday before District Judge John Murray, who set bail at $25,000 cash.

Murray set a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Blue Bell.
