Girl, 16, shot; mom’s boyfriend surrenders

A 48-year-old man surrendered to police and is in custody tonight after shooting a 16-year-old girl in the buttocks and then holding the child's mother hostage, police said.

Police sent a hostage negotiator into a South Philadelphia rowhouse on the 2600 block of South 7th Street late this afternoon after the man barricaded himself inside the home with a woman identified as his girlfriend.

Investigators have not yet named the man or filed charges against him.

The girl was reported to be in stable condition at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
