Well-dressed bandit hits Lower Merion bank

Police are seeking a well-dressed bandit who robbed the Wachovia Bank branch at 402 W. Lancaster Avenue in Lower Merion Friday afternoon and fled across a field on the north side of Haverford College.

The bank robbery suspect is described by police and the FBI as an African American man in his mid to late 30s, 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4 tall, wearing large sunglasses, a dark dress suit with a light-blue dress shirt and print tie, a dark knit ski cap, light colored gloves and a white painter's mask with blue strap.

Police are seeking a well-dressed bandit who robbed the Wachovia Bank branch at 402 W. Lancaster Avenue in Lower Merion Friday afternoon and fled across a field on the north side of Haverford College.

The suspect, whose image was caught on a surveillance camera, brandished a silver handgun and demanded money from a teller, according to the FBI and Lower Merion police. No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

The man left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and made his escape on foot headed south across a playing field near the duck pond on the Haverford campus.

The suspect is described as an African American man in his mid to late 30s, 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4 tall, wearing large sunglasses, a dark dress suit with a light-blue dress shirt and print tie, a dark knit ski cap, light colored gloves and a white painter's mask with blue strap.
