Officials: S.J. school board member was slain

A respected Bridgeton school board member, activist and businessman who was found dead in his apartment Sunday was slain, officials said this afternoon.

Ronald "Blue" Bowman, 59, owner of the Blue's Spot clothing store and a member of the Bidgeton school board, was found Sunday in his apartment, police said. His death has been labeled "suspicious."

A respected Bridgeton school board member, activist and businessman who was found dead in his apartment Sunday was slain, officials said this afternoon.

But while confirming that the death of Ronald "Blue" Bowman was a homicide, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae did not disclose how he had been killed.

An autopsy had been scheduled for today.

The body of Bowman, 59, owner of the Blue's Spot clothing store, was found in his apartment about 3:45 Sunday afternoon, two days after he failed to show for a speaking engagement, authorities said.

Earlier news reports had said he had not been stabbed or shot.

In a statement, the Bridgeton School District said it was "saddened" by the death of Bowman, "a devoted and outstanding member" of the district.

A Facebook page set up as a tribute says: "Ronald 'Blue' Bowman a loving kind man. Who was forever giving & had a big heart. He was a great leader for the community as well for men of all ages. Forever will Mr. Blue will be remembered."
