Greene again a PHA no-show

Amid questions about financial and tax problems, Carl R. Greene, the executive director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), again did not show up at work Tuesday.

Amid questions about financial and tax problems, Carl R. Greene, the executive director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), again did not show up at work Tuesday.

Greene is facing a bank foreclosure on his $615,000 townhouse in the upscale Naval Square development in Southwest Center City.

In addition, the Internal Revenue Service filed a $52,000 lien against him for non-PHA income earned from 2002 to 2006. Greene paid off the lien in March.

Nichole Tillman, a spokeswoman for PHA, said Greene had called in on Monday to say he would not be at work Monday or Tuesday. She would not elaborate on his whereabouts or why he was not showing up at work.

However, former Mayor John F. Street, chairman of the PHA commissioners, said Tuesday he still has received no word from Greene.

On Monday, Street made a public plea for Greene to come forward to answer questions from the commissioners about financial and tax issues.
